A nursery for families in Totteridge, High Wycombe

Totteridge sits on that useful in-between stretch of High Wycombe where you are close enough to town to have everything you need, but also genuinely close to the quieter villages to the north. Families here often weigh up town-centre provision against something a little more settled and village-adjacent, and that is exactly where The House That Jack Built tends to fit naturally into the picture. If you would like to come and have a look around, we would be glad to show you what we do.

Why families choose us

Our approach

What parents tend to notice first when they visit is how much the children are directing their own day. We work on the principle that children who are trusted to follow their own curiosity become more confident and more capable, not just at nursery but at home too. Free flow between the indoor spaces and the garden runs all day, every day, in all weathers, so children are genuinely in charge of where their interests take them rather than waiting to be told what comes next.

In practice

On the practical side, we take settling in seriously. Every child has two introductory sessions before they start properly, and we build on those if a particular child needs a little more time. Your child has a named key carer who tracks their development and is your main point of contact, backed by daily diary sheets and termly updates. We accept both 15-hour and 30-hour funded places, and we are open 51 weeks of the year, closing only on bank and public holidays. Ofsted rated us Good, which we think reflects the consistency of what we offer rather than a snapshot on a good day.

For families in Totteridge

For families in the Totteridge area of High Wycombe, the journey to us is a short and straightforward one. You are positioned between the town and the villages, which means reaching Hazlemere adds very little to a working morning, and the nursery's hours of 7:30am to 6:30am are built around the kind of day most working parents actually have. We have on-site parking, so there is no scramble at drop-off, and the bungalow setting means arrival feels calm rather than rushed.

What Buckinghamshire families say about us

The families already with us can tell you more than we ever could. Parents who started with us as babies are now sending their second and third children through our doors. That kind of trust is not given lightly, and we do not take it for granted.

  • We moved our daughter here after just not having a great feeling at her previous one, and my goodness the difference it’s made. The staff are all so friendly and welcoming, it is a home from home and our daughter is so happy and settled here. The girls in the baby room are the most amazing ladies and I’m so thankful, my daughter adores them! Kayleigh the manager made me feel comfortable from the get go and I don’t want my daughter to ever move on from Lucy the baby room lead, she is incredible.

  • My daughter joined The House That Jack Built in September, having moved to Marlow Bottom from Marlow. The new manager Michelle and her team have been fantastic. The nursery is always clean, my daughter hardly gets ill as opposed to the other setting where she was always sick. All events and learning objectives are always carefully planned and carried out. My daughter is happy to go in and has not cried once. Thank you to all the lovely staff for being great.

  • A lovely bustling day nursery which prides itself on exceptional childcare. The staff I worked with were wonderful during my university placement years and the children were a joy to be around. The pastoral support is equally a key asset among all of the House That Jack Built nurseries and I would highly recommend them for any parents looking to see their child flourish in preparation for school.
